Chairperson's Message
A dream, combined with great passion and dedication is how Albert Edirisinghe Opticians was born. Our aim of providing clear sight for all has always been at the forefront of our identity as we progressed over seven decades.
It has been an honor for me to continue developing this dream, and a true privilege to be part of such a noble industry that can tangibly enrich peoples’ lives.
I have always had a passion for optometry that my father, our founder Deshabandu Albert Edirisinghe, helped nurture. The time I spent learning about the field and industry under his tutelage was an invaluable experience. I continued my optometry education by completing a Diploma in British Orthoptics in 1968, and a Diploma in Optometry at Vidyodaya University, now known as the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, in 1972. I also successfully undertook the CEBU Doctors College of Optometry and Schandler Course in Contact Lens Practice in 1985. My love for the field has grown into a career that has spanned over 50 years, and I am still as motivated and driven as I was when I first started.
As the Chairperson for Albert Edirisinghe Opticians, I utilized the knowledge I received from my father and my academic pursuits to help the company grow, so we continue to provide the best products and care to our loyal customers.
Outside of the company, my position as a Senior Mentor Optometrist for the Sri Lanka Optometric Association, an organization that I am proud to have worked with in multiple capacities over the years, has allowed me to play a role in shaping the Sri Lankan optometry industry into one that is forward thinking and focused on helping everyone that is in need.
As we look towards the future, we will continue to evolve as we have over the years to stay at the forefront of the industry. Our factories and technology are perpetually updated so that we can provide our ever-growing customer base with the best products in the market. I am also proud to see the next generation of our family, including my son Savinda Samarakoon, share my passion for optometry, and be significantly involved in modernizing our operations. I am extremely confident that the future of Albert Edirisinghe Opticians will be bright with their stewardship.
